Top Smartwatches of 2018 – Top 10 Smartwatches To Buy In 2018

Top Smartwatches of 2018

You’ve probably seen some movies where the characters use a watch to do all sorts of cool stuff, such as talking to the watch, or using a watch to display useful information, or maybe even using it to send messages.

You probably wanted a cool watch like that for yourself. As our world evolves, this now seems to be possible.

According to smartwatch history, the first Linux-powered watch was invented, designed and built by Steve Mann in 1998, and for that he was named “The Father of Wearable Computing”.

Designed to communicate wirelessly with PC’s, cell phones and other wireless-enabled devices, this was probably the first device that could be somewhat comparable to present smartwatches.

Now 20 years later, smartwatches have certainly come a long way. Aside from being able to display important information from your mobile phone, today’s top smartwatches now come with a plethora of features, including GPS, voice commands, fitness trackers, media playback, messaging and so much more.

Now you’re probably reading this because you’re planning to get yourself a smartwatch, but with all the features being thrown at you, you’re confused as to which smartwatch is right for you.

If so, then you’ve come to the right place, read on as we share our list of the top smartwatches for 2018 (in no particular order).

By the time you’re done with this article, you’ll be a step closer to choosing the best smartwatch that suits you.

1. Pebble Time Smartwatch – Simple, gets the job done

Image from Wikimedia Commons

First up on this list we have the Pebble Time Smartwatch. The Pebble Time has been around for a while now, but it is still a good smartwatch. Let me tell you why.

The Pebble Time is quite a simple smartwatch, which is a good thing in my book. Because of its simplicity, I think it is one of the best smartwatches for people who are looking to buy their first smartwatch.

In addition to this, this is probably one of the most affordable smartwatches on this list, and probably the entire market, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s an inferior product compared to its competitors.

The Look And Feel

First let’s talk about the design. The Pebble Time has a very simple and minimalistic look, which is not bad. It has a lightweight design and feels comfortable on your wrist. It comes with soft silicone straps, as well as good quality leather and metal straps.

Display

Moving on to the display, the Pebble Time is equipped with an always-on reflective colour display, which is a good feature in my opinion. Although the display is good enough, it does look a bit dated when you compare it to the newer smartwatches. There are also various watch faces for you to choose from.

The display quality also varies depending on the amount of light in its surroundings. With that being said, it seems quite dim when you are looking at it in a bright room or under direct sunlight.

Features

Now let’s move on to the Pebble Time’s software and other features.

First off, the Pebble Time is not touchscreen. This could be one of its major issues and it could be an instant turn-off for most people, especially for people who are very particular with their tech products. But in my opinion, this is not necessarily a bad thing.

Although it is not touchscreen, the buttons are quite good and are easy to work with, and navigating through the Pebble Time’s menus is still easy.

Are you an Android or an iOS user? With the Pebble Time, it doesn’t matter which of the two you’re using, because it can work for both. Something worth mentioning though is that the Pebble Time cannot make and receive phone calls.

Setting alarms is easy with the Pebble Time. It comes with an app that lets you set multiple alarms.

With regards to music, the Pebble Time has a great native music app, which is usually a very important feature that most people look for in a smartwatch. This dedicated music app allows you to play both stored music, as well as stream music from your phone.

Another great feature of the Pebble Time is water resistance of up to 30 meters. This means that it is perfectly safe to wear the Pebble Time even when it’s raining, or maybe even if you’re planning to have a quick dip in the pool.

The Pebble Time has limited features for fitness, and does not even have a heart rate monitor. With that being said, if you’re looking for a smartwatch to use for fitness activities and tracking, the Pebble Time is probably not for you.

Battery Life

The Pebble Time also has an impressive battery life, which can last up to 5 days depending on your use. This feature right here is a huge plus for me.

To Wrap Things Up

All in all, although quite basic and simple, the Pebble Time is still a great smartwatch, especially for people who are still new to using smartwatches. In my opinion, its simplicity is its greatest strength. It does not bombard the user with complex features, but it still delivers the important features that most users care about.

The Pebble Time is definitely a great option for people who are looking for a good smartwatch that does not cost a fortune.

The GoodThe Bad
Simple and easy to useNo touchscreen
Supports Android and iOSLimited features for fitness
Water resistant up to 30 metersDisplay looks a bit dated when compared to newer smartwatches
Impressive battery lifeCan’t make and receive phone calls
Very affordable

2. Apple Watch Series 3 – Top notch, has everything you need

Next up on the list is one of the most well-known brands in world. Being one of the giants in the tech industry, it is no surprise that Apple has a contender on this list.

Although the original Apple Watch was great and was one of the main reasons why smartwatches became part of the mainstream market, Apple still found ways to make improvements on their product, and now we have the Apple Watch Series 3.

The Look And Feel

First let’s talk about the design. Apple products have been known for their sleek and modern designs, and the Apple Watch Series 3 is no different. Although the current design hugely resembles the previous Apple Watches, I think it doesn’t matter because it is still looks beautiful. Like most smartwatches, the Apple Watch Series 3 also has customizable straps.

Display

The Apple Watch Series 3 has an amazing display, you can see the great detail, and it is amazing to behold. Because of the brightness, it is not difficult to read even in bright environments or under direct sunlight.

Features

The big thing that Apple added to their latest smartwatch is LTE, which lets you send and receive messages, make phone calls, and get notifications without bringing your iPhone with you. Responding to messages can be done either by scribbling or by talking directly to the smartwatch.

However, even with the added independence, the Apple Watch Series 3 is still not an iPhone replacement. You cannot set it up or back it up without an iPhone, and you cannot sync it with other Apple products like iPads, iPods or Macs.

In addition, using the LTE feature seems to drain the battery faster, which means you can’t be away from your iPhone for longer periods of time. We’ll talk more about batter life later.

The Apple Watch Series 3 now has an improved speaker, which means you can hear phone calls more clearly.

Another addition is that Siri can now talk to you. With the previous versions, you needed to read Siri’s response, but now you can just listen to the response which is very convenient. This means you do not need to spend some time looking at your wrist and reading what Siri has to say to you.

One important thing you’ll notice with the Apple Watch Series 3 is that it performs better than its predecessors. It is now equipped with a faster processor, so apps open and work faster than ever.

The Apple Watch Series 3 can also stream your favourite songs with ease. It is also water resistant for up to 50 meters so it can be used for swimming and other shallow-water activities. On top of that, it is also equipped with a GPS, adding to this smartwatch’s versatility.

The Apple Watch Series 3 is suitable for athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Fitness tracking apps are great and easy to use. Tracking different types of workouts and other fitness activities are made easy.

Battery Life

Now let’s talk about one of the most important factors when purchasing smartwatches, the battery life. The Apple Watch Series 3 has a battery life of up to 2 days without using the LTE feature. But with heavy usage including LTE, streaming, workouts and GPS use you can only get to about 24 hours. With all that being said, battery life will certainly vary for different users.

As you might expect from an Apple product, the Apple Watch Series 3 is on the expensive side, this is because of its high-end features.

To Wrap Things Up

In conclusion, the Apple Watch Series 3 has awesome features and it is definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for your next smartwatch. It is now faster and better, and is certainly a step up from its predecessors.

Although it is now more independent because of LTE, you still need a compatible iPhone to properly set it up, so as I said it is not a replacement for your iPhone.

The Apple Watch Series 3 is definitely one of the top smartwatches of 2018, and is a great option for anyone looking for a great smartwatch experience.

The GoodThe Bad
Beautiful designHas an average battery life
Faster than previous versionsNot compatible with Android
Increased independence from your iPhone because of LTECannot be set up and backed up without an iPhone
Amazing display, enhanced speakerCannot sync with other Apple devices (iPad, iPod, Mac)
Awesome fitness tracking apps
Water resistance up to 50 meters
Very versatile

3. Samsung Gear Sport – High Quality, Sporty

Image from Wikimedia Commons

The next item on this list comes from yet another giant in the tech industry. As smartwatches become more and more popular, you know Samsung would have their own contender in the market.

The Samsung Gear Sport is Samsung’s latest entry in the smartwatch game. It has the quality and style that you would expect from Samsung, and just by reading the name you should know that this smartwatch is more geared towards fitness.

The Look And Feel

After taking a look at the Samsung Gear Sport, what you would notice is that it has a great build quality. It has a stainless steel body, and because of that it feels a bit heavier than other smartwatches on the market. This is something I don’t like, because I like smartwatches that feel light on the wrist.

Another thing I should mention is that the strap feels a bit uncomfortable, but you could probably get used to it after a while. If you somehow don’t get used to it after a while though, there are plenty of places where you could get strap.

Display

The display on the Gear Sport is absolutely phenomenal. The designs are very detailed, and the colours are very attractive and nice to look at. Because of its brightness, reading is not a problem even under direct sunlight. There are also a number of watch faces you can choose from, and all of them are very detailed and beautiful.

Features

The Gear Sport has good interface hardware, navigating the menus can be done by swiping or using the rotating bezel, which is very easy to do. The buttons on this smartwatch are also solid and well made.

Another great thing about this smartwatch is that it is compatible with both Android and iOS. With that being said, it cannot make calls, but you can use it to dial and answer calls and have it pop up on your phone.

You can however, reply to messages. You can do this by speaking to it directly, or using the keyboard, which is really easy to use. The same can be said for setting reminders.

The Gear Sport can display all notifications from your phone, and simply clicking on the notifications will open them up on your phone.

A great feature of the Gear Sport is that it has offline Spotify support. This means that as long as you have a premium membership, you can stream your favourite tunes from Spotify even if you’re not connected to the internet.

The Gear Sport is also waterproof up to 50 meters, which means it is perfectly safe for swimming and other water activities.

As the name suggests, the Gear Sport can do a lot of fitness tracking. The Samsung Health App can be used for tracking your calories, and also features a workout mode with different types of workouts.

It has a built in GPS which is quite accurate. This makes tracking stats like distance and pace when running easy.

Battery Life

Battery life on this smartwatch can reach up to 3 days if you only use it in pure smartwatch mode, and up to 2 and a half days if you use other features such as GPS and streaming. With that being said, it’s kind of a step back from the Gear S3 which had a much better battery life.

While we’re talking about the battery, I should mention that the Gear Sport can only be charged using its own charging stand, and other wireless charging stands won’t work.

To Wrap Things Up

In conclusion, the Gear Sport could be Samsung’s best smartwatch today. Although its battery life could have been better, the Gear Sport can do more things than its predecessor, and it can do it well.  While it is designed for users with active lifestyles, there are still plenty of features that will make the average user happy.

With all that being said, despite some minor deficiencies, the Samsung Gear Sport is still one of the top smartwatches this year.

The GoodThe Bad
Great build qualityA little heavy
Amazing displayThe strap is a little uncomfortable
Compatible with Android and iOSCannot use other wireless charging stands
Waterproof up to 50 metersBattery life is ok, but is a step back from its predecessor
Good fitness tracking features
Offline Spotify playback

4. Fitbit Versa – Affordable fitness smartwatch

Image from Fitbit

A lot of people seem to use their smartwatch for tracking their fitness activities. This next entry on our list was made exactly for that.

The Fitbit Versa is the latest device made by health tech firm Fitbit. The Versa is relatively cheaper than a lot of its competitors, with a price point less than $200. The question is, is it worth it? Or should you just look for another, more premium smartwatch?

The Look And Feel

Let’s talk about its look first. The Fitbit Versa has a similar look with other smartwatches today. It has a minimalistic design, with a silver aluminium casing. It also comes with silicone and fabric wrist straps. It is has a thin and lightweight design, something I really like in a smartwatch.

Display

The Versa has a responsive touchscreen LCD display. It is easy to read even under direct sunlight, and navigating the menus is easy. In my opinion though, the display on the Versa is not as good as some of the other contenders on this list, but it’s still good based on its price.

Features

Like most smartwatches, the Versa is waterproof up to 50 meters, making it safe to use even under the rain or in the pool.

This device is compatible with both iOS and Android, but you can only do quick replies if you use Android, and unlike other smartwatches, the Versa can’t be used to take calls.

One major feature that was excluded on this smartwatch is the GPS. The Versa does not have a built in GPS, which means it relies on the GPS from your phone.

So you would need to bring your phone with you if you want to track GPS stats, such as your pace and distance when you go for a run.

This is probably not a big deal for you if you usually bring your phone with you when you go running or during your workouts, but this is a turn-off for people who are used to smartwatches with a built in GPS. With that being said, this probably won’t be a deal breaker.

Now let’s talk about the Versa’s greatest strength, which is fitness tracking. Fitness tracking is made easy with the Versa, and you would expect no less from a company like Fitbit.

Fitbit probably has the best fitness tracking app, it is very simple and easy to read, and makes it easy for you to see how much you’ve progressed. It has a simple interface that displays your stats clearly, so it does not confuse you.

The Fitbit App features many workout modes for you to choose from.

The Versa can also track your sleep if you wear it when you go to bed. With this you can see your sleep cycles, such as times when you were in light sleep and deep sleep.

A great thing about the Versa is its dedicated swimming mode, which lets you track water activities. That is quite impressive for a smartwatch at this price point.

Battery Life

Now let’s talk about battery life. The Versa can last up to 3 to 4 days, but if you use it heavily for fitness tracking, it would usually be less than that. With that being said, the battery life will vary depending on how you use it, and what features you use.

To Wrap Things Up

In conclusion, the Fitbit Versa is one of the best fitness smartwatches you can get for under $200. It might sacrifice some premium features, but at the end of the day it still has most of the features that its more expensive counterparts have.

If you can live without a few premium features and are looking for an affordable smartwatch that can easily track your fitness activities, then I would definitely recommend the Fitbit Versa for you.

The GoodThe Bad
Lightweight and thin designDisplay is good, but not as good as some of its competitors
AffordableNo built in GPS
Fitbit probably has the best fitness tracking app
Waterproof up to 50 meters
Compatible with Android and iOS
Good battery life

5. Huawei Watch 2 – Tons Of Features

Image from Huawei

Back in 2015, Huawei launched one of the first smartwatches with the Android Wear 2.0 OS. They recently launched a follow up smartwatch, the appropriately named Huawei Watch 2.

The Look And Feel

Compared to its predecessor, the Huawei Watch 1, the Huawei Watch 2 looks has a more sporty design, and is noticeably bigger. It has a plastic body, and has a decent build.

Something I immediately noticed after seeing the Huawei Watch 2 is that it has a thick bezel, and a small screen. This is something I don’t particularly like, since I usually prefer gadgets with smaller bezels, this includes smartphones, laptops and etc.

Display

The display on this smartwatch is very high quality, and like most of the smartwatches on this list, reading under direct sunlight is not a problem. There are also various watch faces for you to choose from, all of them with decent quality.

The Huawei Watch 2 comes with an always on display, which is always a good thing in my opinion.

Features

The Huawei Watch 2 comes with NFC, which enables you to use Google Pay, if it is available in your country.

With this feature, you now have the option to use Google Pay for your payment transactions instead of using cash.

You can also install a nanoSIM to the Huawei Watch 2, giving you the ability to make and receive calls, as well as send and receive text messages.

A neat feature that I like on this smartwatch is that it goes into an ultra-low power consumption mode when the battery is low. This temporarily disables most features and transforms your smartwatch into a regular watch.

The Huawei Watch 2 is also water resistant, so you don’t need to worry about sweat damaging it during your workouts or water damage when exposed to rain.

Now let’s talk about the fitness capabilities of this smartwatch. The Huawei Watch 2 has a native Workout app installed, which makes tracking your workouts easy.

The Workout app can track a variety of activities, as well as your workout stats, which makes it easier for you to track your progress and improve on your next workout.

Battery Life

The battery life on this smartwatch is not as good as some of its competitors. Without a nanoSIM, the Huawei Watch 2 can reach up to 2 days. If you have a nanoSIM inserted, and if you use some features such as GPS, it would last just over 1 day.

While the battery life may not be that impressive, it’s a good thing that charging time doesn’t take too long with the Huawei Watch 2.

To Wrap Things Up

The Huawei Watch 2 comes with a lot of features. While it is certainly impressive that it has a lot of features, the Huawei Watch 2 does also come with a few flaws. If you already own the Huawei Watch 1, you might not find a lot of reasons to upgrade to the Huawei Watch 2.

However, for new users looking for a new smartwatch experience, the Huawei Watch 2 is still a good option, and is at least worth checking out. If you are looking for a smartwatch that is great for fitness and packed with features, then the Huawei Watch 2 could be for you.

Despite having a few minor flaws, the Huawei Watch 2 still makes it to our list, and we still consider it as one of the top smartwatches of 2018.

The GoodThe Bad
Packed with featuresLarge bezels, small screen
Has a built in GPSSlightly bulkier than its predecessor
Comes with NFC and Google Pay/ Android PayBattery life is not that impressive
Water Resistant
Great fitness capabilities
Ultra-low power consumption mode when the battery is low

6. Amazfit Bip – Superior Battery Life

Image from Amazfit Central

Do you ever wonder if it’s possible that a smartwatch could have a lot of features,  an amazing battery life, but still be affordable? Does a smartwatch like that even exist?

Good news everyone, the answer to that question is a resounding YES.

The Amazfit Bip is a budget friendly smartwatch, but don’t let that low price fool you into thinking that this is just another cheap, low quality smartwatch.

The Look And Feel

The Amazfit Bip is easy on the eyes. It has a small body, with a simple yet decent design. It doesn’t have an eye-catching design, but that’s actually what I like about it. It’s just a simple smartwatch, but there’s no doubt that it still looks good on your wrist.

It comes with a silicone strap, but like most smartwatches, the strap can be replaced. It is very lightweight, and it just sits there on your wrist comfortably.

Display

The display on the Amazfit Bip is decent, the colours are spot on, and everything looks good enough. It is also not hard to read in places with very bright lights, or under direct sunlight.

With that being said, the Amazfit Bip’s display is not as good as the other, more expensive competitors on this list.

Features

The Amazfit Bip has a good amount of features for a smartwatch with its price. For starters, it comes with the common trackers that smartwatches have. This includes heart rate sensors, calorie counters, step counters among other things.

In addition to that, it has a built-in GPS, which is not common for a cheaper smartwatch. In fact, some of the more expensive smartwatches don’t even have a built-in GPS, and need to rely on your phone’s GPS.

It also has an always on display, and can clearly display notifications from your phone via Bluetooth.

Like most smartwatches today, the Amazfit Bip is also water resistant, but only up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, which isn’t really that deep. Because of this, I would not recommend using this smartwatche for swimming or other activities where you need to be in the water for long periods of time.

However, it is perfectly fine to wear the Amazfit Bip in the rain or during a regular workout which doesn’t involve a lot of water.

The Amazfit Bip is also compatible with both Android and iOS.

The Amazfit Bip comes with a dedicated fitness app. The app is very user-friendly, and quite easy to read. It allows you to track different types of workouts and activities, and shows you the important stats related to your workouts.

It is a more basic fitness app, so it’s not as complex as other fitness apps like Fitbit. However, it still gets the job done.

Battery Life

Now we’re going to talk about the battery life. The Amazfit Bip lasts up to 45 days with a single charge. Yes, you read that right, up to 45 days! Truly amazing, I don’t think I’ve ever come across anything like this before.

With that being said, the battery life will still depend on the features you use, and using features like the GPS for a long period of time would cause the battery to drain much faster.

To Wrap Things Up

The Amazfit Bip is an excellent smartwatch. It really brings a lot of value for its price. I think that the battery life is the Amazfit Bip’s strongest asset, and some people would probably buy this just because of its amazing battery life.

It has a lot of features and can do most of the things that a lot of its more expensive competitors can do, which is why it deserves its spot as one of the top smartwatches this year.

It may not be as flashy as the other smartwatches on this list, but it gets the job done, for a fraction of the cost.

The GoodThe Bad
Lightweight designDisplay is not as good as some of its competitors
Good amount of featuresWater resistance only up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes
Very affordable
Has a built-in GPS
Fantastic battery life

7. Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro – Innovative screen technology

The next entry on our list of the top smartphones this year comes from a company you’ve probably never heard of before.

Image from Mobvoi

This next smartwatch was made by a company called Mobvoi, and they are kind of new to the smartwatch game. Mobvoi launched a line of smartwatches called the Ticwatch, and now they have a new product for you, the Ticwatch Pro.

The Look And Feel

The Tickwatch Pro looks and feels like a top quality smartwatch, a step forward from its predecessors. The body is slightly thicker and bigger for my liking, however, it still feels relatively light for the way it looks, and is quite comfortable on the wrist.

The strap on this smartwatch is somewhat different than other smartwatches I’ve seen, as the top part of the strap is made of leather, but is made of silicone underneath. I think it looks good, and it also adds to this smartwatch’s uniqueness. If you don’t like it however, there are other straps available for you to buy.

Display

Something to talk about the Ticwatch Pro is that it has a layered display technology, which means it has 2 screens layered on top of each other. The 2 screens represent 2 modes, which are labelled as Essential and Smart. The Ticwatch Pro dynamically switches between the two modes and only 1 is visible at a time.

Essential mode displays essential stuff, such as the time, date, battery remaining, sort of like a normal digital watch. The Smart mode has all the other features and does what you would expect a smartwatch to do.

The Essential mode uses an LCD screen while the Smart mode uses an OLED screen. So as you would expect, the display looks much brighter and much better when Smart Mode is on.

However, a problem with the OLED screen is that visibility is reduced when under direct sunlight.

Features

The Ticwatch Pro comes with premium Wear OS. It is also equipped with a good processor so the animations and transitions run very smoothly, and notifications work well.

This device is compatible with both Android and iOS, but requires you to install the Mobvoi App. This is one of the drawbacks of the Ticwatch Pro, as the Mobvoi App currently has limited functionality.

This smartwatch also comes with NFC which allows you to use Google Pay for your payment transactions. While you still need to bring your phone with you to make this work, it is still a great feature.

Although this smartwatch isn’t geared towards fitness, it can still do a bit of fitness tracking. The fitness app does comes with basic workouts, and it also has a built-in GPS. However, if you’re looking for a smartwatch that has more fitness tracking options, you’d best look somewhere else.

The Ticwatch Pro is water resistant up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, not that great. With that being said, I would not recommend that you take this smartwatch with you when you go swimming.

Battery Life

The Ticwatch Pro gives you the option to exclusively use Essential mode, which dramatically prolongs the battery life for up to 30 days. On the other hand, using Smart mode exclusively, with all the features and the OLED display drains the battery much faster.

If you use the 2 modes together, switching between the 2 from time to time, the battery lasts for up to 2 days, which is pretty average.

This smartwatch comes with a feature that automatically switches to Essential mode whenever the battery gets as low as 15 percent.

To Wrap Things Up

The Ticwatch Pro is made by a company who is relatively new to the smartwatch industry, yet it does not disappoint. The dual-screen technology is something new and I feel that this will open doors for the industry in the future.

The Ticwatch Pro looks great, runs smoothly and offers a lot to the table.

Although some areas can still be improved upon, I feel that the benefits outweigh the flaws here. With that being said, the Ticwatch Pro definitely earned its place on this list of the top smartwatches of 2018.

The GoodThe Bad
Dual-screen technologyMobvoi App currently has limited functionality
Runs smoothlyLimited fitness tracking features
NFC for Google PayWater resistance only up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes
Built-in GPSVisibility reduced when OLED is under direct sunlight
Compatible with Android and iOS
Exceptional battery life on Essential mode
Battery-saving feature when battery levels are low

8. LG Watch Style – Stylish Android Wear Smartwatch

Image from LG

LG just launched two smartwatches that come with the Android Wear 2.0 OS. If you’re looking for a simple and stylish smartwatch, then the LG Watch Style could be right for you.

The Look And Feel

You might think that something with the word Style on its name should look, well stylish. The LG Watch Style is just that.

It’s quite small, and it is one of the thinnest Android Wear smartwatches today. It has a circular body that is very well made, and I think it looks amazing. It comes with a strap made of genuine leather.

Because of its size, the LG Watch Style feels comfortable on your wirst.

What I like most about its look is the minimalistic design. It’s simple yet beautiful.

Display

The display on the LG Watch Style comes equipped with an OLED display. The display looks decent enough, although it is not as good as some of its competitors. With that being said, the display still looks sharp because of its small screen size, so I don’t think this is a big deal.

Visibility is also not a problem even in bright areas or outdoors.

Features

The LG Watch Style comes with Android Wear 2.0, and it runs smoothly on this device. Although most of the features in this device are more basic than some of its competitors, it does everything almost perfectly.

Android Wear comes with some useful native apps, and some of these apps can be installed on their own directly on the smartwatch, so you don’t even need your smartphone with you.

A great feature here is being able add widgets to the watch face. This is a neat feature that really speeds up everything you need to do.

Messaging has been improved, and you can use the keyboard to type messages or you can write it directly on the screen.

This also comes with Google Assistant, so you can give it instructions by directly speaking to the device. One issue I found about this though is that sometimes you need to speak louder in order for Google Assistant to understand you. So you need to avoid speaking to it when you’re in a loud or crowded area.

Although the LG Watch Style does not come with a built-in GPS and heart rate monitor, it can still be used for fitness tracking because of the improved Google Fit app.

It may not have some of the capabilities of some of its competitors, but it is still able to do a decent job at fitness tracking, with a number of workouts available for you to choose from.

The LG Watch Style is water resistant, but not waterproof. So you do not have to worry about sweat damaging it during your workouts, but this smartwatch is not for swimming, always take it off whenever you go for a dip.

Battery Life

The battery life on the LG Watch Style is not very impressive. It has a small battery, which is expected because the smartwatch itself is quite thin.

Using all the features, the battery life lasts just up to 1 day. Not that good at all.

To Wrap Things Up

The LG Watch Style is one of the most stylish and beautiful Android Wear smartwatches out there today. The greatness of the Android Wear 2.0 OS is in full display here, and with a good selection of native apps available, it kind of gives you a sense of independence from your smartphone.

While it may have fewer features than some of its competitors, it is still able to do the basic functions quite well. If you are looking for a subtle but stylish Android Wear smartwatch, then this would probably suit you.

The GoodThe Bad
Stylish and attractiveDisappointing battery life
Android Wear 2.0 runs smoothlyNot that many features
Good amount of native apps available
Some apps can be installed independently
Improved messaging and Google Fit app

9. Mobvoi Ticwatch E- Great value at an affordable price

Image from Mobvoi

Mobvoi seems to be on a roll here. The Ticwatch E is the second smartwatch from Mobvoi to be featured on this list of the top smartwatches of 2018, and with good reason.

The Ticwatch E is one of the cheapest smartwatches from Mobvoi. But don’t judge it just based on its price; this smartwatch can give its competitors a run for their money.

The Look And Feel

There’s nothing too flashy about the Ticwatch E’s overall design. This is not necessarily a bad thing though. It has a circular body which is made of plastic. It’s not that thin, but it still feels light on your wrist.

It comes with a silicone strap, which feels comfortable and can also be replaced.

Display

The display on the Ticwatch E is decent, it looks sharp and the colours are nice to look at. It’s also bright enough that visibility is not a problem even when you’re outside.

You can also choose from a variety of available watch faces.

Features

This is where the Ticwatch E shines. It has the Android Wear 2.0 OS, so it comes with all the features that you love with it. It comes with Google Assistant, and more apps are available for download from the Play Store.

It comes with loads of features, such as various sensors, an always on display, and even a GPS. The built-in GPS alone is quite impressive for a smartwatch at this price point.

The Ticwatch E is also compatible with both Android and iOS. It is equipped with a microphone and a speaker, and is able to take and receive calls with ease. The speaker is good enough, but may be difficult to hear when you are in a noisy environment.

Fitness trackers are simple and easy to set up, and there are various types of workouts available for you. The fitness app is able to track basic stats such as steps take, calories burned. The built-in GPS is also able to track stats like distance and pace.

The Ticwatch E is splash proof but not waterproof, so it is not suitable for swimming and other water activities.

Battery Life

The battery life on the Ticwatch E is nothing special. The battery life usually lasts just up to 1 day with all the features turned on.

Disabling some of its features such as the always on display can help prolong the battery life so it can last more than 1 day.

The good thing is that charging does not take a long time, the Ticwatch E can be fully charged in less than 1 hour.

To Wrap Things Up

In conclusion, the Ticwatch E is an excellent smartwatch that offers a lot of value. It is loaded with premium features, and it will more than satisfy the average smartwatch user.

The Ticwatch E may not look very flashy, but it can keep up with its bigger competitors. It can do most of the things that other flagship smartwatches can do, for a lower price.

Yes the battery life could have been better, but i don’t think that this is really a big issue. I think it’s just a small price to pay for all the great stuff that this smartwatch can do.

With all that being said, the Ticwatch E definitely deserves its spot as one of the top smartwatches of 2018.

10. Garmin Forerunner 935 – Great multi-sports features

Image from Wikimedia Commons

Garmin is a company that has been able to make a name for itself by producing top notch sports watches.

The Forerunner 935 is one of the high quality watches from Garmin. This smartwatch is one of the best multi-sport watches today, and while it is made for users with an active lifestyle, it can still be suitable for the average, laid back users who only like to go for a bit of a walk or a hike every now and again.

The Look And Feel

The Forerunner 935 looks like the typical sports watch in my opinion. It has a circular body that looks quite big, and it has thick bezels.

Some parts of its body are made of plastic; this includes parts of the screen, so it may be more prone to scratches.

It comes with a silicone strap that feels comfortable to wear, so wearing it during long runs is not a problem. Despite the big body, the Forerunner 935 still feels light on your wrist.

Display

The display on the Forerunner 935 is good, and I there’s nothing I can complain about here. The colours are spot on, and the overall display looks sharp.

Considering that this smartwatch was made for athletes, Garmin made sure that this watch is usable outdoors, so reading the contents on the screen is not a problem even under direct sunlight.

Features

The Forerunner 935 is a great multi-sport watch, and it has a lot of features that would benefit athletes.

It has a lot of sport profiles for you to choose from, and it probably has everything you could think of from running, cycling, swimming and more. However, if by any chance you don’t find the sport profile you’re looking for, or you just want to add new profiles, then that is totally possible with the Forerunner 935.

Along with the multi-sports profiles, it is equipped with a GPS. It is also able to display advanced stats and metrics so it is very easy to track your progress, to know whether you’re improving or slowing down.

The built-in heart rate sensor is very accurate, and it can even tell you your current performance status based on your heart rate.

Although the built-in heart rate sensor works great for running, cycling or cardio activities in general, it is not very accurate when you use it for weight lifting. If you do intend to use the Forerunner 935 when you go to the gym, you would need to pair it with an external heart rate sensor.

The Forerunner 935 is waterproof for up to 50 meters, so it is an ideal sports watch to use for swimming and other water sports.

In addition to all of that, the Forerunner 935 also has the normal smartwatch features, such as displaying notifications, setting reminders, and a weather app.

It also has an always on display which is always helpful in my opinion. It is also important to mention that the Forerunner 935 is not a touchscreen watch. Again I don’t think this is a big deal, especially since the buttons on this smartwatch make navigation easy. However, I think this is a feature that some users might consider important.

Battery Life

The battery life is where the Forerunner 935 has a leg up on other multi-sports watches. It boasts a 2 week battery life, and up to 24 hours when GPS and heart rate tracking is kept running.

With that being said, you would never have to worry about the Forerunner 935 running out of juice in the middle of your activities.

To Wrap Things Up

The Garmin Forerunner 935 has an impressive battery life, and it is simply one of the best multi-sport watches today. It can do most of the things that the more expensive Garmin multi-sport watches can do, but is also a bit cheaper.

If you are an active fitness enthusiast, the Forerunner 935 is a good investment, and definitely worth checking out.
